Geography Minor


Admission Criteria


Current UB students seeking admission to the Geography minor should complete the College of Arts and Sciences Major/Minor Change Request Form.

Course Requirements


Complete 1 track below. 

Track 1: General Geography (18 credits)


Track 2: Earth Systems Science (18 credits)


Track 3: International Business and World Trade (18 credits)


Track 4: Geographic Information Systems and Cartography (20-22 credits)


Total Credits Required for Minor: 18-22


Total Credit Hours Required represents the minimum credits needed to complete this program, and may vary based on a number of circumstances. This chart should not be used for financial aid purposes.

Academic Requirements


  • Minimum GPA of 2.000 overall.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.000 in all Geography courses

Program Distinction


A student in this major is eligible for Program Distinction upon degree conferral if the criteria are met. Criteria are found under Academic Honors in the Policy and Procedure section of this Catalog. Program Distinction is noted on the official transcript.

Learning Outcomes


Upon successful completion of all requirements, students will obtain foundational knowledge in general geography and in the areas of international trade, geographic information systems, Earth systems science, and urban and regional analysis, they will acquire knowledge in quantitative and qualitative analytic methods, and they will develop skills and abilities in laboratory, field, software, and statistical methods and techniques necessary to address geographic issues.
