Architecture Minor


Admission Criteria


  • Complete two 100/200-level architecture courses with a minimum GPA of 2.500 in both courses
  • Minimum UB GPA of 2.000

Architecture Core (21 credits)

Total Credit Hours Required represents the minimum credits needed to complete this program, and may vary based on a number of circumstances. This chart should not be used for financial aid purposes.

Academic Requirements


  • A minimum of 9 credits and 3 courses at the 100- or 200- level,
  • A minimum of 12 credits and 4 courses at the 300- or 400-level; and
  • An ARC-prefixed GPA of 2.500 in Architecture Minor courses, a minimum overall University at Buffalo GPA of 2.000, and a minimum of seven courses and 21 credits is required for program completion.
  • The Architecture Minor is typically completed within 6 semesters.
  • No more than 3 credits of ARC 467DIS - Research Practice , 3 credits of ARC 496TUT - Community Design Service , and 3 credits of ARC 499TUT - Independent Study in Architecture  may be applied toward Architecture Minor requirements.

Transfer Credit Policy

No more than six credits of architecture transfer coursework may be applied toward Architecture Minor requirements.  A minimum of 15 ARC-prefixed credit hours must be completed at the University at Buffalo to satisfy the Architecture Minor’s academic residency requirement. 

Program Distinction


A student in this major is eligible for Program Distinction upon degree conferral if the criteria are met. Criteria are found under Academic Honors in the Policy and Procedure section of this Catalog. Program Distinction is noted on the official transcript.

Upon successful completion of all requirements, the student will have knowledge of:

  • Understanding issues and methods of architectural design, representation and construction
  • Becoming culturally aware, competent in design literacy and environmentally responsible practices
