PharmD/Business Administration MBA

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Degree Level

The School of Management and the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences jointly offer a five-year program leading to the Master of Business Administration (MBA)/Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree. The dual-degree program reduces the usual pattern of a four-year PharmD program and a two-year MBA program, by one year.

The MBA is a valuable credential that can be paired with a number of professional degrees, offering advanced business training concurrently to students pursing professional credentials.  The School of Management offers 6 such “collaborative” offerings:  the MBA/AuD for speech pathologists, the MBA/Real Estate Development MS for planners and developers, the MBA/DDS for aspiring dentists, the MBA/MPH for public health professionals, and the MBA in combination with our surgical residency, for surgeons-in-training.  Contact the School of Management for more information about these time-saving “collaborative” program opportunities.

Curriculum

The dual degree program reduces by one year the usual pattern of a four-year PharmD program and a two-year MBA program. It is the longest, most established combined degree program available to our students. Students may enter the MBA after the first or second year. Their first year in the MBA consists of only MBA courses. Each candidate must meet all degree requirements of each school.

MBA Curriculum (48 credits)

Summer (3 credits)

Internship requirement can be waived with one year of full-time work experience. If waiver is approved, you must take 3 additional credits of electives.

  • MGX ### - Internship  Credits: 3

Electives (18 credits)

Choose management courses to fulfill the elective requirement of 18 credit hours. Elective course options may offer variable credit hours. Consult with your academic advisor to ensure appropriate credit hours for degree conferral. Total elective credit hours for degree conferral must be 18-21, depending on internship waiver.

Electives and Options (minimum 12 credits)

Elective courses provide you with an opportunity to enhance your knowledge, skills and professional attitude beyond that provided by the core curriculum. Students are required to take 6-13 elective credit hours, depending on their entering term (see Academic Advisement Report). Carefully review the elective policy here and elective options and within interest areas on our website.

Note

The School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences reserves the right to change courses as needed in order to achieve curricular outcomes in accordance with Accreditation Standards and Guidelines.

To assist with integration of IPPE topics, Pioneer Rx Pharmacy Software is used to enhance the learning experience for students through hands-on simulations featuring the functions and workflow processes found in pharmacies.
