Programs in early childhood and childhood education deal with children from preschool up to the middle school years. The programs in early childhood or childhood education are also available with a bilingual extension/specialization. The program in elementary education is designed specifically for graduate students without an undergraduate degree in education, who wish to teach at the early childhood or childhood levels. This program enables those who have majored in approved humanities, social sciences or sciences to pursue a master’s degree, and to satisfy birth through grade six certification requirements.

Field Experience (18 credits)
Culminating Experience: Exam, Project or Thesis (0-3 credits)

II. Professional Curriculum
Major Area Requirements (21 credits)
Emphasis Area (18 credits)
Select 1 Emphasis Area and select 18 credits from the appropriate area.
Electives (12 credits)
Select 12 credits from:
- Courses can be chosen from any Emphasis Area above. (Must be courses other than those used to meet your 18 credits of Emphasis Area.)
- May also choose from Suggested Electives below or other Electives with Advisor Approval.
Culminating Experience: Exam, Project or Thesis (0-3 credits)
Additional Requirements
Required for Conferral of Degree:
- Proof of completion of Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) workshop
- Proof of completion of NYSED Students with Disabilities Requirement
- Proof of valid NYS Initial Teacher Certificate
Total Professional Credits: 51-54
