Admission Criteria
- Minimum GPA of 2.500 in introductory courses
- Minimum GPA of 2.000 overall in minor required
Current UB students who are interested in applying to the Neuroscience Minor in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences should submit the Minor Application. Introductory Courses (7 credits)
Neuroscience Core (10 credits)
Three Electives: (9-11 credits)
At least 3 credits must come from Biological Sciences (BIO) and 3 credits from Psychology (PSY). All electives must be chosen from the approved list. Total Credits Required for Minor: 26-28
Total Credit Hours Required represents the minimum credits needed to complete this program, and may vary based on a number of circumstances. This chart should not be used for financial aid purposes. Academic Requirements
- Combined GPA of 2.500 required in Introductory Courses (see above) for acceptance into the minor.
- GPA of 2.000 (minimum C grade) in neuroscience coursework
Learning Outcomes
The overall goal of the Neuroscience minor is to prepare students to critically think about and apply the neurosciences at the level of individual genes, cells, organs, neural circuits and animal/human behavior and; importantly, how these processes can become dysfunctional and give rise to neurological and neuropsychiatric disease. Students will be able to coalesce information across a wide range of basic sciences and disciplines applying them to a clinical and translational understanding of the brain. Additionally, a student minoring in neuroscience will develop insights into how the brain controls behavior, how neurons are capable of encoding and processing vast amounts of data, and identifying the current challenges in understanding how the brain functions in health and disease. |
