AI Ethics Minor


The goal of this Minor program is to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the ethics and politics of AI. Students will learn about the philosophical foundations of AI, core concepts in ethics and political philosophy, and how to use these tools to normatively evaluate different uses and abuses of AI.

Admission Criteria


Current UB students seeking admission to the AI Ethics Minor should complete the College of Arts and Sciences Major/Minor Change Request Form.

Course Requirements


Total Credits Required for Minor: 21


Total Credit Hours Required represents the minimum credits needed to complete this program, and may vary based on a number of circumstances. This chart should not be used for financial aid purposes.

Academic Requirements


Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0; students must successfully complete 21 credit hours.

Learning Outcomes


Upon completion of the minor, students will:

  • Be able to explain core ethical and political concepts
  • Be able to use formal reasoning tools
  • Understand metaphysical questions about artificial minds
  • Be able to normatively assess uses of different forms of AI across different institutional contexts
