Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
1) Possess a broad and comprehensive understanding of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology/genetics.
2) Knowledge concerning molecules of clinical relevance, the principles underlying their clinical importance, and how their presence is altered in disease.
3) Familiarity with hands-on research, including using online databases; understand the creation and testing of scientific hypotheses, and critical evaluation of experimental data.
4) The final objective differentiates this department’s programs from many others: to learn specific laboratory skills relevant to future careers. Because the Biotechnology MS programs is research-based, an overarching objective is to apply materials from formal coursework to design and execution of a major research project to demonstrate the acquisition of these skills.
