Computer Science and Engineering MS

The Computer Science and Engineering MS program offers students a comprehensive grasp of cutting-edge industry subjects while equipping them to engage in fundamental and applied research in computer science. The program encompasses various tracks, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, systems, and a research track that enables students to pursue personalized projects or engage in supervised research. 

Track Options

The MS program has three tracks to select from:

  • Research
  • Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning
  • Software/Hardware Systems

Research Track

Research Track: Required Core (13 credits)

Theory and Algorithms (3 credits)

Select 1 from: 

And select one course from 3 of the 4 remaining core areas:

Artificial Intelligence (3 credits)

Select 1 from:

Software and Information Systems (3 credits)

Select 1 from:

Hardware and Networked Systems (3 credits)

Select 1 from:

Security (3 credits)

Select 1 from:

Depth Requirement (9 credits)

Select 2 courses, not previously completed, from one area and 1 additional course from a different area; at least 1 couse must be 600-level:

Theory and Algorithms:

Artificial Intelligence:

Software and Information Systems:

Hardware and Networked Systems:

Security:

Additional Requirements (1-3 credits)

Select:

  • One CSE 7XX level seminar  Credits: 1-3
  • Excluding CSE 700  and CSE 799 . 

Research Track Electives (0-2 credits)

Number of elective credits may vary depending on choice made to complete the culminating experience. Be sure to complete enough elective credit to reach 30 minimum total credit hours. 

  • All graduate level Computer Science (CSE) courses.
  • All graduate level School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) courses.
  • Management (MGT) courses with permission from Director of Graduate Studies (DGS).

Culminating Experience: Project or Thesis (5 credits)

Total Credits: 30

3.0 Degree GPA required

AI / ML Track

AI / ML Track Required Core (12 credits)

Depth Requirement & Project Capstone (9 credits)

Capstone project to be complete in CSE 573 . 

AI / ML Track Electives (9 credits)

Systems Track

Systems Track Required Core (12 credits)

Depth Requirement & Project Capstone (9 credits)

Capstone project to be complete in CSE 562 .
