The online master’s degree in criminology has a strong foundation in sociology. You’ll focus on the following:
- The nature and causes of crime.
- The characteristics and behaviors of people who commit and are affected by crime.
- Social inequalities linked to crime and criminal justice systems based on race, gender and social class.
- The inner workings of law enforcement agencies and criminal justice systems.
- Social reactions to crime, victims and people who commit a crime.
- Connections between crime and other social institutions.
- Data analysis and interpretation for public audiences.

3.0 Degree GPA required Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
- Develop and articulate a broad and in-depth understanding of key criminological theories and the empirical literature in crime and criminal justice research.
- Gain proficiency in statistical methods commonly used in criminology and apply them to conduct basic quantitative analyses.
- Demonstrate understanding of major research methods in criminology. This includes the ability to compare and evaluate the strengths and limitations of different methodological approaches for studying crime and the criminal justice system, and basic application of evidence-based approaches to evaluate criminal justice policies.
