The Electrical Engineering PhD program provides advanced study and training, focusing on cultivating research-level scholars. Graduates of this program showcase their aptitude by generating original and noteworthy contributions to signals, communications and networking, optics and photonics, solid state electronics, or energy systems through their dissertations.

Required Core & Electives (42-60 credits)
- Students will work directly with their academic advisor to select courses that are meaningful for their research interests. Students need to complete at least 42 credits of coursework. Up to 36 MS credits can be accepted towards the required 42 credits. This is at the discretion of the advisor and the Graduate School. Students may select courses outside of EE that correlate with their background and research.
Dissertation (12-30 credits)

3.0 Degree GPA required Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
1) Students of the Electrical Engineering PhD program will be able to apply principles of engineering, science, and mathematics. 2) Students of the Electrical Engineering PhD program will be able to design, implement, validate and deploy a component, device, system, or process. 3) Students of the Electrical Engineering PhD program will be able to deliver the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, societal, or ethical context. 4) Students of the Electrical Engineering PhD program will be able to conduct research in a specialized area that makes a contribution to the knowledge base, including dissemination of their research results.
