Exercise science is the scientific study of how human movement influences health, fitness, performance and disease prevention. The Exercise Science MS covers how physical activity and exercise can be used in the prevention and management of chronic disease and disability through lifespan. Students will learn the implementation of functional assessment evaluations (exercise, nutrition, or motion analysis), as well as mechanisms of injury and repair and the use of exercise as a therapeutic agent.

1) Describe how physical activity and performance are impacted by disease, aging, and training and implement appropriate programmatic training and nutritional strategies to improve physical performance. 2) Explain how neuromuscular and cardiopulmonary systems adapt to diet intervention, training and detraining. 3) Explain how physical activity and exercise can be used in the prevention and management of chronic disease and disability to optimize health. Describe how physical activity and/or diet can help to achieve public health goals. 4) Use information systems to conduct efficient searches of scientific literature and critically evaluate and disseminate information about research findings. 5) Develop a personal plan for ongoing education and professional development after graduation. 6) Apply classroom learning in laboratory, clinical or fitness setting.
