Theatre Performance MA

The graduate programs in theatre and performance feature a unique integration of scholarship and practice. We believe that if you know something theoretically but don’t know it practically, then you don’t truly understand its whole theory. Conversely, if you know something practically but don’t know it theoretically, then you don’t truly understand its whole practice. This program is designed to foster scholar artists who are well versed in research, scholarship and performance practice.

Electives (9 credits)


Select from any graduate level offerings in the Theatre (TH) and Dance (DAC) Department or related disciplines/departments with approval of your advisor.

Culminating Experience (6 credits)

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)


1) demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of theatre and performance theory, practice, and historiography

2) Apply diverse and innovative research methodologies to creative work

3) Critically analyze historical and contemporary performances

4) Communicate original ideas and analyses in written texts, oral presentations, performances, and other media

5) prepare for advanced graduate study in MFA, PhD, and EdD programs and professional work in theatre, performance, and related professional employment
