Category 3
Category 3 degrees approved by CRCC are addictions/substance abuse counseling, counseling psychology, school/guidance counseling, marriage and family counseling/therapy, mental health counseling, social work, counselor education & supervision-doctoral degree/counselor education & supervision with course content that emphasizes rehabilitation, disability counseling. Students with these degrees develop an individualized coursework plan with a faculty advisor to meet specific academic eligibility requirements for the CRC exam within Category 3 as set by the CRCC.
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
1) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: Professional orientation and ethical practice. Upholding professional ethical standards for rehabilitation counselors and manage risk.
2) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: PLO 2: Counseling theories and techniques of counseling.
3) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: Medical and psychosocial aspects of disability. Apply knowledge of the medical aspects and implications of various disabilities. Evaluate the psychosocial and cultural impact of disability.
4) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: Assessment/evaluation. Access and review resources for the assessment process, including informal and standardized assessments.
5) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: Career development theories; job development and placement; occupational analysis and service implementation. Understand and apply career development and job placement strategies. Comprehension of job analysis, labor market analysis, assessments for rehabilitation planning purposes, and understanding vocational aspects of functional limitations associated with disabilities.
6) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: Business engagement. Partner with employers and provide consultation services to employers related to disability concepts, practices, and applicable laws.
7) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: Case Management and community partnerships. Understanding of the case management principles and process including documentation, negotiation strategies, and case conceptualization and service planning. Understanding of public and private service and resource programs available to individuals with disabilities.
8) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: Healthcare and disability management. Understand the diversity of healthcare benefits, delivery systems, and the impact of services on individuals with disabilities. Understanding of health promotion and wellness providers and strategies for people with chronic illness and disability.
9) Students demonstrate growth and appropriate entry-level competence in the following areas: Research methodology and performance management. Understand research and program evaluation methodology, analysis, and the use of data to inform practice.
