The Department of Philosophy offers graduate study in most recognized subdisciplines and historical periods, and has been recognized as among the best Anglo-American departments in many of those fields. Graduate study in UB’s philosophy department prepares students for carrying out original research in philosophy and fields of applied philosophy, and trains students to be quality instructors. The department is distinguished by a range of special interests and orientations in philosophy, the high quality of instruction, and by the high degree of faculty-student interaction, both in scholarly enterprises and in departmental affairs.

  • Select from All Psychology (PSY) 500, 600, 700 and 800 level courses, exclusing PSY 700 and PSY 799

Culminating Experience: Project and Thesis (1-6 credits)

Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)


1) Students will exhibit competence in statistical methods.

2) Students will have both broad and deep exposure to current ideas and evidence in the study of behavior.

3) Students will exhibit competence in the execution of a well-organized and thoroughly documented scholarly paper on a substantive topic area in psychology.

4) Students will demonstrate knowledge in ethics in research and responsible conduct of research.
