Chemical Engineering MS

The Chemical Engineering MS program enhances student preparedness for future careers by cultivating essential skills in areas of significant industry demand. Our award-winning faculty collectively address problems in emerging fields like tissue replacement and regeneration, nanotechnology, advanced polymers, innovative catalysts, thermodynamic behavior, fluid dynamics, reaction mechanisms, bioinformatics, and modeling devices and systems.

This 30-credit degree program is designed for individuals with a chemical engineering background. Students can choose from three different tracks: a thesis track, a project track, or a course-focused track. 

Track 1 and 2 - Thesis or Project Capstone


Electives (21-24 credits)


Number of elective credits may vary depending on choice made to complete the culminating experience. Be sure to complete enough elective credit to reach 30 minimum total credit hours. 

Select from:

  • All graduate level Chemical Engineering (CE) courses.
  • Or up to 6 credits of coursework outside of department, with permission from academic advisor. (Excluding culminating experience courses.)
  • A maximum of 6 credits of informal coursework (including CE 501 , CE 502  & CE 596 ) can count toward electives.

Track 3 - Comprehensive Exam Capstone


Formal CE Electives (27 credits)


Select from:

  • All graduate level Chemical Engineering (CE) courses Lecture (LEC) or Lab (LAB) courses.
  • A maximum of 6 credits of informal coursework (including CE 501 , CE 502  & CE 596 ) can count toward electives.

Culminating Experience (0 credits)


  • Comprehensive exam
