Chemistry Education: Adolescence EdM

Master’s-level study in science education prepares adolescence-level teachers in biology, chemistry, earth science and physics. Students who have initial certification at the adolescence level can elect for an EdM which qualifies them for professional certification at the middle school child and adolescence levels. In addition, students in programs in early childhood or childhood education may choose to concentrate studies in science. The unique sequence of research experiences and courses in the programs includes science curriculum, science instruction, measurement and evaluation of science instruction, and a research seminar.

III. Professional Curriculum


Content Concentration or Grades 5-6 Extension (12 credits)


Choose Option 1 OR Option 2 

Option 2 - Grades 7-12 Content Concentration


Select 4 from:

  • In consultation with your advisor, student can select content specific graduate level coursework and LAI Science Education pedagogy courses to satisfy this concentration. 

Culminating Experience: Project, Portfolio or Thesis (0-3 credits)


Additional Requirements


Required for Conferral of Degree:

  • Proof of completion of Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) workshop
  • Proof of completion of NYSED Students with Disabilities Requirement
  • Proof of valid NYS Initial Teacher Certificate

Total Professional Curriculum Credits: 30-36
