The Department of Classics offers graduate courses in Greek and Latin languages, Greco-Roman history, and classical archaeology. MA students choose one of three concentrations: classics (for students with an advanced level of Latin and Greek), ancient history (emphasis on ancient history and material culture) and the MA in Latin (for students with an advanced level of Latin who are preparing to teach Latin in secondary schools or to apply for a PhD program in classics).

3.0 Degree GPA required Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs)
1) Advanced knowledge of and ability to read Latin and Greek (or Latin only for the Latin M.A.) 2) Reading knowledge of one modern language (French, German, Italian) 3) Broad-based knowledge of the ancient literatures, ancient history, and material culture 4) Application of these skills to the acquisition of specific knowledge and research experience in selected areas 5) Employment, at an advanced level, of research methods, databases, and other tools appropriate to current expectations within the classics discipline SED Statement
