The post professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program at the University at Buffalo is designed to meet the needs of practicing occupational therapists eager to advance and help shape the future of the profession. With a focus on developing advanced practitioners with specialized expertise, advanced knowledge and skills, and the ability to take on leadership and educational roles in the field, this 34-credit program provides a foundation in evidence-based practice and research, public health, project development and analysis, academia, leadership and management, along with four specialized elective courses in areas of interest. Students work with their advisor to choose from a wide variety of graduate courses throughout the University for specialty electives and may select electives that also fulfill online certificate program requirements, such as the Certificate in Rehabilitative and Assistive Technology or the Public Health Advanced Graduate Certificate, providing added value to their studies. Post professional OTD students further their expertise through opportunities to translate knowledge from coursework to practice with individual capstone projects designed and implemented by the students in concert with an academic capstone coordinator and UB faculty capstone mentor.
