School of Public Health and Health Professions change of major form

Current UB students who wish to change their major to Exercise Science should complete our web form and schedule an appointment with an advisor from the School of Public Health and Health Professions Office for Academic and Student Affairs.

Students interested in a combined degree program that starts with one of the Exercise Science BS options must meet specific criteria to be eligible for admission, as follows:

  • Exercise Science BS - Pre-AT concentration/Athletic Training MS
    • Students may be accepted into the BS/MS program as first-year students if they are accepted to the University Honors College and meet the requirements to remain in the program.

    • Otherwise, current students must apply online to UB’s Graduate School for the graduate portion of the BS/MS program in year three. To be eligible, students must have ≥ 3.000 overall undergraduate GPA and complete prerequisite coursework. Emphasis will be placed on prerequisites and general science courses. Students must also complete 10 hours of observation with an athletic trainer within one year from the time of application and submit two letters of recommendation and a personal statement.

    • Refer to the Athletic Training MS admissions website for details.

  • Exercise Science BS - Pre-Health concentration/Nutrition MS
    • Students may be accepted into the BS/MS program as first-year students if they are accepted to the University Honors College and meet the requirements to remain in the program.

    • Otherwise, current UB students will apply online to UB’s Graduate School to the graduate portion of the BS/MS program in year three. The deadline to apply is March 15 of the student’s third year. To be eligible, students must have a minimum GPA of 2.800 in the last 60 credits of undergraduate work and no prerequisite grades below C. An overall undergraduate GPA of 3.000 is required to be eligible for the graduate portion as of the fall semester, fourth year.

    • This combined degree program does NOT allow students to be eligible to become a Registered Dietician Nutritionist (RDN). Students seeking the RDN credential will need to complete the prerequisites for the Clinical Nutrition MS. The Nutrition Science BS is a good option for students seeking the RDN credential as it allows students to complete the prerequisites as part of the undergraduate degree. Please speak with your academic advisor for assistance.

    • Refer to the Nutrition MS admissions website for details.
