SOC 387LEC - Sociology of Race & Racism Can racism be solved with new laws and better attitudes, or is something deeper at stake? Is it possible to be colorblind? Students in this course explore such questions, learning how race and racism work in such arenas as politics, the economy, communities, law and the criminal justice system, education, pop culture, and intimate relationships and in relation to gender, class, and ethnicity. They will study racism as an institutional phenomenon that may or may not involve hate and outright discrimination.
