AAS 271LEC - African American Literature


This course surveys African American Literature by exploring the diversity of literary production that falls under the category of black. Students will investigate how major works of prose and poetry by Frederick Douglass, Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Ida B. Wells, Richard Wright, and Toni Morrison address questions of immigration, sexuality, gender, and slavery. Readings may also include critical analyses of popular culture such as hip-hop, music videos, and blogs. This course is the same as ENG 271 .
