ART 410LAB - Art & Design for Social Impact

Art & Design for Social Impact will introduce students to the impact of using design as a catalyst for positive social change in contemporary society. This course will cultivate a sense of social responsibility and inquiry by providing opportunities to investigate, discuss, write and design solutions on social, political, cultural, environmental and ethical issues, locally, nationally and globally. Students will then develop their voice and role as designers, authors and critics. With the aim to become engaged leaders in society, students will explore the systems and methodologies to challenge unfair power structures through interdisciplinary research, informed engagement and design practices. Particular emphasis is applied (but not limited) to activism, equity, inclusion, accessibility, diversity, self-reflexivity, coloniality and speculative design.
