BE 305LR - Biomaterials and Mechanics


This course will introduce the common biomaterials used in biological and medical applications, including metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, etc.; properties of biomaterials (physical properties and surface characteristics); interactions of biomaterials with cells and tissues (biocompatibility); testing of biomaterials and biodegradation. This course will also introduce the concepts and models of solid biomechanics, which is an important physical property of the biomaterials.
