CDN 400SEM - An Overview of Canadian Studies

This seminar provides an introduction to the study of Canada for advance undergraduate and graduate students. It is inherently multidisciplinary in nature, with an intellectual emphasis on the interdependence of geography, economy, society, history, and culture. A central focus in the course will be the tension, evident throughout Canadian history, between regional and national identities. A distinctive feature of the course will be the scheduled interaction with students in “Canadian Studies” seminar from Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario. We will meet five times with this group of Canadian students with joint meetings to be held at the Buffalo and Fort Erie Peace Bridge Authority (the “Peace Bridge”) boardroom, located immediately adjacent to the Canadian customs inspection plaza in Fort Erie, Ontario. Students accepted into the course will be required to have a valid passport or other WHTI-compliant travel document.
