MUS 413LAB - Break on Through This class introduces the melding of fundamental business and entrepreneurial concepts with an individual’s pursuit of the Arts and their broader passions. It focuses on concepts of product marketing and portfolio diversification as they relate to how a student identifies opportunities for financial gain. In the case of an artist, the goal is for an artist to be thinking about the production of their art in the context of its value within various markets. For any student, the course will help them explore how their passions and interests can facilitate identifying opportunities not immediately or commonly aligned with their typical capability outlet.
To set the foundation for class study, the course examines the careers of contemporary performers, artists, and arts practitioners. The class will also give students the opportunity to share their work in a safe space in the context of evaluating how their current focus aligns with their product development aspirations.
This class is designed to support performance artists of all genres. Open to actors, dancers, public speakers, musicians, athletes, and others, by permission of the instructor.
Credits: 2-3
Grading Graded (GRD)
Typically Offered: Fall, Spring
Requisites: Intended for majors in music but open by permission of the instructor to all UB undergraduate students.
