SPA 481SEM - Cuba Today

Cuba is the closest non-contiguous neighbor to the US, but if you are a US citizen, you are not allowed to go there without special permission from your government. Why is that the case? Cuba is a communist country but so is Vietnam and no permission is needed to visit there. This difference cannot be completely understood without knowledge of the history of US-Cuba relations. The course focuses on this history. There is no prerequisite. The course will be taught in English and all readings will be in English.
