Integrative Final Project and Policy Brief
Complete the integrative final project and write a policy brief.
- Integrative final project: Upon completing the required coursework, students will submit either a 5 page paper, a poster, or do a presentation that addresses one of the following two topics (A and B) and cites at least 5 academic sources from previous Gender and Globalization coursework.
- Using gender analysis or a feminist theoretical perspective analyze one aspect of the gendered processes that undergird globalization and its effects on gender inequality. The paper can focus on either a specific international organization or in a particular country or region of the world
OR
- Drawing on course concepts, evaluate the role of women in a specific non-U.S. location in responding to one of the following issues: violence, migration, climate change, political equality, education, health or economic development.
The paper, poster, or presentation will be embedded as evidence in the digital badge. The poster and the presentation will take place during the spring semester showcase of senior projects that is part of the GGSs senior research process.
- The policy brief will consist of a gender analysis of the current legal and policy status of one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development goals in a specific country. The policy brief will consist of minimum 5 pages that draw on information from the student’s coursework and information from the UN. Students will be introduced to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the required course of GGS 205:Women in the Global System that will provide a framework for integrating country and region specific knowledge gained in the additional coursework required for the completion of the micro-credential.
Total Credits Required for Micro-Credential: 9
Academic Requirements
- GGS 205 , must be completed with a B or better.
Learning Outcomes
- Use gender as an analytical category to understand and critique global patterns of inequality, and social, political, economic, and cultural institutions.
- Critically analyze the social construction of gender, and how gender intersects with race, ethnicity, locality, class, gender, and sexuality within a global perspective.
- Explain the gendered processes that undergird the historical, economic, and cultural forces behind the emergence of the concept and the realities of “globalization.”
- Evaluate how gender operates at different levels including the conceptualization of difference, the production and recreation of femininity and masculinity, the division of labor, and social institutions, at local, national and transnational level.
- Integrate feminist theory and practice through analysis of the everyday realities of feminist activism around the globe, paying attention to local, national and international connections in different world regions.
- Imagine a world that reflects feminist principles of liberation, social justice, respect and care.
