Quality Engineering Minor


Admission Criteria


  • Academic good standing within an approved major within the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
  • Completion of 45 total credit hours (at UB or elsewhere). Note that students may apply to the program while registered in courses that will bring them to 45 total credit hours.
  • Minimum overall and UB cumulative GPA of 2.500 required. Admission will be limited to 25 students per year, and therefore the GPAs of admitted students may be higher. When demand exceeds capacity, the overall academic history of applicants will be considered in admission decisions.

Quality Engineering Core (20 credits)

Total Credit Hours Required represents the minimum credits needed to complete this program, and may vary based on a number of circumstances. This chart should not be used for financial aid purposes.

Academic Requirements


  • Minimum GPA for minor is 2.000 in minor courses.
  • At least three courses applied for the minor cannot be used to fulfill any other program requirements (UB Curriculum, major, or other minor). Also, some of the courses have their own specific pre-requisites and therefore might not be available to all students in the minor.

Learning Outcomes


  • Understand and describe current theories, methods, and principles related to quality engineering.
  • Identify, formulate, and solve problems in the area of quality engineering.
  • Design quality control systems to measure and control the quality of services or products to ensure conformance to quality requirements.
  • Design quality assurance systems which are compliant, effective, and appropriate for people to use and work within so as to ensure confidence that quality requirements will be fulfilled.
  • Communicate effectively about quality engineering problem solutions and system designs.
