Manufacturing Minor


This minor is offered jointly through the departments of Industrial and Systems Engineering  and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering .

Admission Criteria


  • One of the following:
    1. Academic good standing within an approved major within the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
    2. Satisfaction of the core course requirement for admission to an engineering major. See our Admission to SEAS for Current UB Students documentation for more information.
  • Minimum overall and UB GPA of 2.500 required

Course Requirements


Manufacturing Core (3 credits)


One Core Track (6 credits)


Notes


As long as one two-course core track is taken, one or two of the two courses from the other core track could be applied to the minor. Other upper division SEAS courses related to manufacturing as they are offered, subject to approval of the minor advisor. At least three courses applied to the minor cannot be used to satisfy major requirements.

Total Credit Hours Required represents the minimum credits needed to complete this program, and may vary based on a number of circumstances. This chart should not be used for financial aid purposes.

Academic Requirements


  • Minimum GPA is 2.000 in minor courses.
  • A maximum of three courses from your UB Curriculum, major(s), and/or other minors can be applied towards the Manufacturing Minor. Anything beyond three shared courses will need to be excluded by your Academic Advisor.

Learning Outcomes


  • Understand and describe current methods, processes, and /or technologies in manufacturing.
  • Identify, formulate and solve problems in the area of manufacturing.
  • Apply appropriate theories and methods to analyze and design of manufacturing technologies and systems within realistic constraints (e.g., economic, manufacturability, sustainability, environmental)
  • Communicate effectively about manufacturing engineering problem solutions, technologies, and system designs.
