The PhD Program in Biomedical Sciences (PPBS) is the entry portal for ten PhD programs in the biomedical sciences: biochemistry; biomedical informatics; computational cell biology, anatomy and pathology; genetics, genomics and bioinformatics; microbiology and immunology; neuroscience; oral biology; pharmacology; physiology; and structural biology. Whether you’ve already decided on a field of interest or are undecided, the PPBS program structure allows you to explore different fields of research and laboratories before selecting your faculty advisor and PhD degree-granting program at the end of the first year.

Laboratory Rotations
With our laboratory rotation system, you can explore a variety of disciplines before committing to your specific area of research. During the first year in the program, you will complete a series of eight-week laboratory rotations during the fall and spring semesters. At the end of the first year, you will choose a rotation laboratory where you will conduct your PhD dissertation research. Learn more about our laboratory rotation system 1st Semester (17 credits)
2nd Semester (13-17 credits)
Number of credits may vary depending on choice made to complete the elective credits. Be sure to complete enough elective credit to reach 72 minimum total credit hours. Electives (4-8 credits)
