History Overview
Students in History courses explore the past from many perspectives, whether political, economic and social, or cultural, intellectual and religious. They learn not only about “what happened” in history, but they also investigate the causes and context of change over time in human societies. Students gain an awareness of the differences in interpreting the past, and they develop the skills necessary to become historians themselves, analyze sources (the building blocks of historical research), and articulate their own historical arguments using a wide range of sources. These include published and unpublished texts; film, photography, and other visual material; autobiographical and oral testimonies. The recent expansion of digitized materials has made a vast array of evidence available to undergraduates.
Academic Advising
Students obtain academic advice and guidance from the academic advisors in the College of Arts and Sciences Student Advisement & Services office (275 Park Hall) and from faculty in their program of study. The CAS Student Advisement and Services Office assists undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences to plan their academic trajectory, develop goals and successfully complete their college careers.
