Counseling Minor

Admission Criteria
- Minimum overall GPA of 2.500 required
- At least 30 credit hours completed at the time of application
Current UB students wishing to add or change their minor to Counseling, submit the Minor Application Form.

Academic Requirements
- The prerequisite course (PSY 101 ) should be completed or in progress when applying for the minor. Students who meet these requirements are more likely to achieve success as they will have the requisite academic preparation and a more developed sense of career direction or interests to be able to make decisions about pursuing a Minor in Counseling.
- Residency Requirement: Twelve of the total credit hours must be acquired from UB.
Learning Outcomes
It is expected that students completing the minor will be able to:
- Identify the roles, functions, and educational requirements of various helping professions (CEP 200 )
- Describe the major theoretical models of counseling (CEP 401 )
- Understand the core ethical principles essential to counseling (CEP 401 )
- Demonstrate awareness of issues related to counseling individuals from diverse backgrounds (CEP 412 )
- Gain knowledge on specific careers in counseling and psychology (CEP 200 , CEP 401 current issues courses)
