Admission Criteria

Current UB students seeking admission to the Jazz Performance minor should complete the College of Arts and Sciences Major/Minor Change Request Form.

Course Requirements

Jazz Performance Core (18-19 credits)

MUS 104LEC - Introduction to Music Theory and Musicianship Credits: 3 OR
MUS 105LAB - Music Theory, Analysis, and Aural Skills 1 Lab Credits: 1 AND
MUS 105LEC - Music Theory, Analysis, and Aural Skills 1 Credits: 3
Two 2-Credit Studio Lessons (4 credits total) (See AAR for list of course)
MUS 110LEC - Jazz in American Life Credits: 3 OR
MUS 214LEC - Music History Survey 2 Credits: 3
MUS 356LAB - Jazz Ensemble: Big Band Credits: 2 (8 credit minimum) OR
MUS 357LAB - Jazz Ensemble: Combo Credits: 2 (8 credit minimum)

Academic Requirements

Students interested in pursuing the Jazz Performance Minor must audition for the Jazz Ensemble director prior to admission to the program and must have a GPA of 2.500 or higher.

Students will demonstrate an improved proficiency in jazz ensemble performance and instrumental performance
